Tax-Free Pre-Sales & Estimate Process

Leading up to the weekend, customers may want to pick out a mattress and wait to formally purchase the mattress until Tax-Free. This is normal practice by Yankee Mattress, and we’ve been doing it with great success over the past few years.

In that case, we will follow the estimate process outlined below. The process is as follows:

1. Choose your mattress, foundations, base, accessories, and products you’d like to purchase

2. Our team will create an Estimate for you in our POS system

3. We will need to fill out a credit card payment slip or receive a check for the amount (note: your card will not be charged until the morning of Saturday, August 8, nor will your check be cashed until that date. Checks should be postdated to 8/8/2026)

4. Our team will process all Pre-Sales & Estimate sales the morning of Saturday, August 8 to complete your purchase with the Massachusetts state tax exemption

5. You will receive an email confirmation with your order and receipt of payment

6. Your order will move into production in the order it was received.

The sooner you complete the pre-sale process, the sooner you will receive your tax-free purchase!

What products qualify for Tax Free?

Any individual items purchased that cost less than $2,500 qualify for tax-free savings on August 8th and 9th.

Can I use the $50 off every $500 spent coupon with the Tax-Free savings?

Absolutely! You’ll save the 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax and get $200 off.

What if I purchase multiple items that each cost $2,500 or less, but the total price is more than $2,500? 

If the price of each individual item is $2,500 or less, you can combine as many items as you want, tax-free, even if the combined items cost more than $2,500.

What if I spend more than $2,500 on an item?

The only products we carry that cost more than $2,500 are King-sized Mattresses from our Black Collection.

In this case, we do have to pay the sales tax on this product but not you! We will be happy to offer you a ‘tax discount’ of 6.25% on these products.

A business has advertised that a purchase I made prior to the sales tax holiday weekend can be canceled and re-booked on the holiday.  Can I do that and avoid paying sales tax?

No. You can’t cancel your prior purchase and re-book the purchase on the sales tax holiday weekend to avoid the sales tax if you:

• Put down a deposit on,

• Prepaid for or

• Otherwise promised to pay for an eligible item prior to the sales tax holiday weekend. 

What we can do in this case, is prepare a Tax Free Pre-Sale & Estimate for you in-store. This estimate will hold your production place in line and will be processed the morning of Saturday, August 8.

Orders will be processed in the order they were received. This will determine your place in the production queue.

What is the average delivery & lead time to getting my purchase from Tax Free Weekend?

Presale Orders: 1-3 weeks from Tax-Free Weekend

Saturday Tax-Free Sales: 3-5 weeks

Sunday Tax-Free Sales: 5-7 Weeks

What if I live in a state other than Massachusetts?

All out of state customer must pick up their order in store. Out of state delivery is not legal without charging sales tax.

Example: a customer who lives in Connecticut can order a mattress from us, then can receive it tax free but must pickup at on of our showrooms. If we delivery or ship out of state, then their sales tax must be collected to that state we deliver to.

Does the tax-free savings count online as well?

Yes! Any purchases made on our Yankee Mattress website from customers with delivery or pickup in Massachusetts on Saturday August 8 or Sunday August 9, will be exempt from paying the Massachusetts state tax.

What happens if I exchange or return an item once the sales tax holiday has ended?

No tax is due even if the exchange is made after the holiday. You will not be subject to the tax retroactively.
