Buying & Comfort Questions
What happens if I get my mattress home and don’t love it?
Our showroom managers are trained to help you find the perfect fit, but we understand that sleeping on a mattress at home is different from trying it in-store.
That’s why we offer a 100-Night Comfort Adjustment. If your mattress doesn’t feel just right, we’ll work with you to adjust it until it’s perfect. Your comfort is our priority — and we stand behind every handcrafted mattress we make.

Do your mattresses come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Yankee Mattress is backed by a 100% non-prorated warranty, so your coverage never loses value over time. Warranty length varies by model, and our team is happy to guide you in choosing the right mattress with confidence.
Read more about our warranty here.
Will your mattresses work with an adjustable base?
Almost all of our mattresses are fully compatible with adjustable bases. The only exception is our Gold Line Rockland model, which features a traditional rigid innerspring.
If you’re unsure which mattress works best with your setup, our team will gladly guide you.
I have an antique or odd-sized bed. Can someone measure it for me?
Absolutely. We specialize in custom and hard-to-fit sizes, crafting unique dimensions weekly. If you’re not comfortable measuring your bed frame, we can send a professional to your home to ensure precise measurements and a perfect fit. (A small service fee applies.)
Are your mattresses comparable to the national brand I tried at another store?
Direct comparisons can be difficult because many national brands do not disclose the full specifications of their materials — such as foam density, coil gauge, or edge support.
At Yankee Mattress, we believe in full transparency. In our showrooms, you can see a detailed breakdown of every material in each model — so you know exactly what you’re sleeping on and can feel confident in your purchase.
How long does it take to get a Yankee Mattress?
Every mattress is handcrafted to order. Once your order is placed, our team gathers the materials and begins building your mattress specifically for you.
Typical turnaround: 1–2 weeks
Custom or specialty sizes: may require additional time
Some locations may have select models in stock for same-day pickup — availability varies, so call ahead to confirm.
Can I get a mattress today?
Because every mattress is made to order, production usually takes a few days, with delivery shortly after — averaging 1–2 weeks. Some locations may have select models ready for quicker pickup. It never hurts to ask — we’ll do our best to accommodate your timeline.
Do you take returns?
Rather than traditional returns, we offer a Comfort Adjustment program.
Returning a mattress often results in an entire product being discarded — something we work hard to avoid for environmental and quality reasons. With a comfort adjustment, we can tweak your mattress layers to achieve the feel you prefer, reducing waste and ensuring long-term satisfaction.
Mattress Care & Maintenance
Do I need to rotate my mattress?
Yes. We recommend rotating your mattress 180° every 1–2 months, especially during the first two years.
Rotating redistributes pressure across the sleep surface, allowing foams and coils to break in evenly. This simple step protects your investment and prolongs the life of your mattress.
Why don’t your mattresses have handles?
Our mattresses use higher-density foams and durable components, making them heavier than many mass-produced models. Traditional sewn-on handles cannot reliably support this weight without risking damage, so we prioritize structural integrity and long-term performance over handles.
Do you make double-sided mattresses?
No. All Yankee Mattresses are intentionally single-sided, designed for optimal comfort and longevity. Modern foams and advanced coil systems allow a single sleep surface to perform consistently without the need to flip.
Flipping a mattress with two comfort layers can lead to uneven wear and inconsistent support. By engineering a single, optimized sleep surface, we deliver:
Higher-quality, denser comfort materials
Consistent support
Reduced uneven wear
Longer-lasting comfort
What’s the difference between a mattress and a box spring?
Mattress: Your primary comfort system, built with coils and carefully selected foams or latex to relieve pressure, support alignment, and provide your preferred feel (plush, medium, firm, or extra firm).
Box spring/Foundation: Sits beneath the mattress to provide structural support, absorb shock, prevent sagging, improve airflow, and raise the mattress to a comfortable height.
Both components work together to deliver comfort, support, and longevity.
What’s the difference between a frame and a headboard?
Frame: The structural system that holds your mattress and foundation off the ground.
Headboard & Footboard: Decorative elements that attach to the frame and complete the aesthetic, without providing primary support.
Collections & Materials
What’s the difference between your collections?
Silver Collection: Practical, dependable options for guest rooms, children’s rooms, or budget-conscious shoppers. Durable coils and streamlined comfort materials provide reliable support at an accessible price.
Gold Collection: Our classic everyday lineup with upgraded pocketed coil systems like Quantum Edge®, offering enhanced edge support and sleeping surface stability. Ideal if you sit on the edge of your bed regularly.
Black Collection: Advanced coil systems including combi-coil and nano coil layers, paired with premium comfort materials. Many models use 100% natural rubber tree latex for responsive, breathable support. Others feature high-density gel memory foam for sleepers seeking contouring comfort with cooling properties.
What’s the difference between a box spring and a foundation?
Foundation: Rigid support base (usually wooden slats), providing stability, airflow, and mattress longevity.
Box spring: Contains metal coils for flexible shock absorption while supporting the mattress.
What’s the difference between a topper and a protector?
Mattress topper: An optional comfort layer (memory foam or latex) to adjust the mattress feel.
Mattress protector: Water-resistant, fits like a fitted sheet to guard against spills, stains, and allergens.
Do you offer pillow-top mattresses?
We do not. Traditional pillow-tops contain loose fiber fill that can shift, causing uneven surfaces and body impressions. Instead, we use high-density quilt foam layers integrated into the mattress for consistent comfort and durability.
Foundation & Adjustable Bases
Do I need a foundation?
Yes. A proper support system — box spring, foundation, platform, or slats spaced no more than 3" apart — prevents sagging, protects your warranty, and maximizes mattress performance.
Do I need a foundation with an adjustable base?
No. Adjustable bases have a built-in supportive platform. Adding a separate foundation can cause instability and damage. The base replaces the foundation entirely.
How often should I replace my foundation?
Replace if:
It is 8+ years old
Shows visible wear or damage
You’re purchasing a new mattress
Pairing a new mattress with a supportive base ensures maximum comfort and longevity.
Will my mattress sag over time?
All mattresses compress naturally. Premature sagging is usually caused by:
Inadequate support
Lack of rotation
Consistent pressure in the same area
Moisture exposure
Prevent sagging with:
Rotating every 1–2 months
Using a waterproof mattress protector
Proper foundation support
Can I put my mattress on the floor?
We do not recommend it. Lack of airflow beneath the mattress increases moisture buildup and can shorten the lifespan of your mattress.
Why are mattresses thicker than before?
Modern mattresses feature multiple performance layers — foams, latex, and precision coils — for superior support, pressure relief, and motion isolation. Slimmer, firmer options are available for those who prefer a lower-profile feel.
Do I need special sheets?
No. Our mattresses are designed for standard sheets; deep-pocket or specialty sheets are not required.
Will a Queen fit in my Subaru Outback? We provide exact mattress dimensions; we recommend measuring your vehicle before transport.
Company & Materials
Who makes your mattresses?
Every mattress is handcrafted in Agawam, MA by our employee-owned team, each with a personal stake in quality.
How can you offer better quality at competitive prices?
We are both manufacturer and retailer, eliminating middleman markups while maintaining full control over materials and craftsmanship.
Are you the owner or founder?
Since 2019, Yankee Mattress has been 100% employee-owned, continuing our founder’s legacy of integrity and craftsmanship.
Will my mattress off-gas?
Our foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, free of harmful chemicals, ozone depleters, and heavy metals. Hybrids allow airflow, minimizing “new mattress” scents.
How are your mattresses fire-resistant?
We use a felt-like rayon barrier that meets federal standards — never spray-on chemicals or fiberglass.
Latex vs Memory Foam
Memory Foam: Deep contouring, pressure relief, motion isolation, “in the bed” feel.
Latex: Responsive, breathable, durable, “on the bed” feel.
Do coils emit radiation?
No. Steel coils and soft materials meet strict safety standards, including CertiPUR-US® certification where applicable.
